You’ll be directed to our submission form on the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America website, where you should enter your zip code and fill in all the necessary fields.
Once we’ve received your information, someone from our office will contact you and ask to schedule an interview for you and your child.
You’ll receive an application in the mail in a few days, which you should complete before the day of your interview.
When we interview you and your child we will ask lots of questions about interests, preferences and general all around info. We ask those same questions to the prospective Bigs so that we can be sure there are compatible interests between your child and the volunteer we match him/her with. We make sure to learn as much about your child’s specific hobbies, likes and dislikes and ways they enjoy spending time so that the match has a great start.
The amount of time it takes to make a match depends on how long it takes to find someone as special as your child.
Our Impact.
A study on the Big Brothers Big Sisters youth organization found that kids matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister:
• Are more confident • Are more likely to steer clear of drugs and alcohol • Do better in school • Get along better with their family and friends • Feel better about themselves. 1
Your child's safety is very important to us.Big Brothers Big Sisters conducts a thorough background check on every volunteer in our mentoring program. Once your child is matched, you’ll receive regular updates and you’ll be able to talk with us about the progress of the relationship.
